Spectators swoop to Summer Fair as Hartpury hosts biggest-ever event

Thousands of people flocked to Hartpury over the weekend as the college hosted another action-packed Summer Fair.

With more on offer than ever before, including a bigger and better activity and inflatables zone and a jam-packed arena programme, more than 5500 people descended on the campus to experience hundreds of different activities at the fantastic, free event held on Saturday (June 4th).

Although the sun only made a brief appearance, it was a very warm day and the college raised more than £600 for their chosen charity, Teens in Crisis, as visitors enjoyed the food and drink tent, crafts marquee and the chance to get hands-on with some of the college’s farm animals and furry critters.

That figure included generous donations from exhibitors as sales, particularly of Lovington’s ice cream, went through the roof.

With free entry for everyone, even the family dog, the Summer Fair proved an unmissable day out. Children loved the new tractor and trailer rides through campus as well as showing off their sporting skills on the new ninja warrior style obstacle course.

The activity zone was as popular as ever with new additions including an inflatable helter skelter, bottle rockets and archery tag – a combination of dodgeball, paintball style combat and archery, which was run by Hillside Brewery.

The day finished with the ever-popular family dog show, which had a record number of entrants at more than 100 and included prizes for ‘waggiest tail’ and ‘best walk at heel’.

“It was another brilliant day from start to finish and it was great to hear so many people of all ages telling me what a great day they had exploring the campus and enjoying the activities, entertainment and local fayre on offer,” said Hartpury Principal Russell Marchant.

“We’re continuing to grow the fair and this year we had even more new stallholders and activities for people to get involved in. As well as it being a great day out for all the family and a celebration of all that our county has to offer, it’s a chance for us to showcase what we do at Hartpury, from our outstanding sporting success to our brilliant equine facilities, extensive animal collection, working farm and our professional and A-level courses.

“I really hope that people enjoyed the day as much as we enjoyed welcoming them. I need to give a big thank you to everyone who helped us to raise an incredible amount of money for charity.”

A gallery of photos from the Summer Fair will be made available on Hartpury College’s Facebook page this week and a ‘Storify’ of the event is already available by clicking here.
