Gold Cup fever hits Hartpury as students savour sweet success

Hartpury students got swept up in Gold Cup fever today with a special ‘Sweet Stakes’.

Equine students completing a racing unit as part of their course, ‘Introduction to the racing industry’, got the chance to watch the Cheltenham Festival this afternoon in the inspirational surroundings of the world-class Hartpury Arena.

The students were able to bet on the horses using sweets, cheering home 20-1 Gold Cup winner ‘Lord Windermere’.

Callum Bickers-Price, 16, Level 3 Extended Diploma Horse Management (Business) student, said: “I’m very happy; it couldn’t have been better! My horse came through at the end and I won loads of sweets.

“The atmosphere in here, especially towards the end, was incredible – it’s great to see everyone getting together and supporting the sport.”
