Hartpury Futsal hunt for FA Cup glory

Hartpury Futsal hunt for FA Cup glory

Hartpury’s Women’s Futsal team are in touching distance of reaching the final of the FA Cup, having won every one of their games this season.

The team, managed by Hartpury’s Sport Coaching Lecturer Luciana De Martin Silva, has progressed to the semi-final stage of the competition after winning all 10 of their fixtures in the preliminary qualifying stage.

The squad will now travel to Dagenham on Sunday, June 1st, where they will then face three games against other teams who have qualified for this stage. If the team finishes in the top two of the group, they will then make it through to the national FA Cup final stage at the iconic Olympic venue, the Copper Box, in London, on Saturday, June 14th.

Luciana said: “All the girls have been extremely committed to the cause, and their performances have got better each week. They have deserved to get this far.

“The whole team is ready for the challenge this weekend and if we perform like we have all season, I think we have a chance of qualifying for the final stage, which would be incredible.”

The team has been training hard in preparation for the Sunday showdown and the squad has recently been strengthened by the addition of former Hartpury student Samantha Hallsworth, a current member of the Forest Green Rovers Ladies squad.

Meanwhile, Brazilian-born Luciana is hoping to be celebrating a double this summer – with Hartpury winning the Women’s Futsal FA Cup and her national team claiming World Cup glory.

She added: “I think Brazil have a good chance of winning the World Cup. It would certainly be a party back home if they managed to do it!”
