Hartpury students hit the slopes

While Gloucestershire has been basking in glorious sunshine recently, a group of Hartpury students headed for chilly climes to spend an adrenaline-fuelled week on the challenging slopes of Val Thorens.

The 21 Hartpury college and university students spent six days skiing, tobogganing and taking part in many more snow-related activities in the highest resort in Europe in the French Alps.

The trip was filled with both college and university students, and they were greeted with fantastic snow conditions which lasted the entire week. They also had an opportunity to sample the ‘après ski’ activities.

Sam Hurley, an MSc Coaching Science student, organised the trip as the founder of Hartpury’s Snowsports Club. It was run in conjunction with ‘Off the Piste’- the UK’s leading student snowsports tour operator.

Sam said: “It was a great experience for all involved, and it’s fantastic that the Snowsports club has generated so much interest. From taking in the stunning mountain scenery and skiing down the piste to enjoying the party atmosphere, everybody had a great time.”

The Hartpury snowsports club is looking to ride the avalanche of success it has enjoyed with this trip, and is already preparing for the next adventure. The club is hoping to set up lessons at Gloucester Ski Centre for new skiers and boarders, providing the perfect practice platform before next year’s trip.
