Clean sweep for Hartpury rowers

Clean sweep for Hartpury rowers

Hartpury’s rowers took the top three places in both the J18 men’s and women’s single sculls in a recent time trial event at Gloucester Rowing Club.

The ‘Gloucester Head’, an event run by Hartpury’s training base, Gloucester Rowing Club, was the setting as Hartpury students took seven wins overall in the competition.

The clean sweeps came courtesy of Jack Williams, Joe Barnes and James Bird in the men’s event and Jess Newson, Flo Pickles and Alice Bowyer securing the medal places in the women’s event.

A Level students Jack Williams and Joe Barnes took first and second place respectively, with BTEC Sports Coaching student, James Bird, taking the Bronze.

The female equivalent produced a similar result in a tight race, with BTEC Sports Coaching student, Jess Newson pipping AASE student, Flo Pickles by two seconds to take the gold. A Level student, Alice Bowyer, completed the top three.

Jack Williams and Joe Barnes (pictured) picked up another gold in the J18 double sculls as Hartpury squad rowers won a further five events.

Sophia Heath, Charlotte Punter and Mollie Payne teamed up with Gloucester Rowing Club’s Claire Lambing to record an excellent win in the WJ18 quad sculls.
