Hartpury rower impresses at Senior GB trials

A Level student Mathilda Hodgkins-Byrne finished as the 3rd highest ranked U23 rower following a weekend of trials in Boston, Lincolnshire.

The trial, for Great Britain Senior and Under 23 teams, was the first opportunity for rowers outside of the senior GB team looking for selection in 2014 to test their speed.

For Mathilda, who represented GB at junior level in 2012, this was her first ever senior level GB trial. On the Saturday she recorded a personal best of 7:05.2 in a 2000m assessment on the rowing machine. This qualified her to take part in a 5k assessment on the water on the Sunday where she finished an excellent 7th place overall, 3rd highest ranking U23 rower.

Whilst it is very early stages of the season this result was an excellent start for Mathilda as she works towards challenging for a place in the U23 team next summer. Following this result she has been invited to a GB U23 training camp in December, to work in crew boats alongside fellow prospective U23 squad members.
