Hartpury Sport round-up from November 4th, 2015

There was a full host of sporting fixtures at Hartpury this week, with Hartpury’s golfers delivering a strong performance in the third round of the British Schools and Colleges Tour.

The Hartpury A team secured first place in the nett division while also finishing tied for first in the gross division, as they shared the spoils with Moulton College. In the individual results, Hartpury golfer Kobe Adams shot a one under par score of 69 to claim second place with George Bryant three shots behind in fourth.

The BUCS first team also triumphed as they beat Cardiff seconds in the BUCs Western 2B League by one point.

In the football, the university first team’s BUCS Premier South League fixture with Bath firsts ended goalless while the BUCS second XI were involved in a high scoring affair, coming away with a 5-2 win over Marjons firsts in their BUCS Western 1A League clash. The Under-19s seconds defeated Cirencester firsts 5-0 in the ECFA Premier Cat 2A League while the BUCS third XI produced their second win in the BUCS Western 2B league after overcoming UWE firsts 2-1.

The Under-19s fourth team edged out Herefordshire and Ludlow firsts by a single goal in the AoC West Midlands Cat 3B League with a 4-3 win while both the BUCS fourths and the Under-19s girl’s firsts lost by three goals in their respective fixtures. The former failed to register a goal in their BUCS Western 4A League 3-0 defeat to Bath fourths and the latter were beaten 4-1 by Hereford Sixth Forms first team in the AoC West Midlands Cat 3B League.

Hartpury’s university rugby first XV were handed their first defeat of the season by Exeter firsts in the BUCS Premier South A League in a 30-13 result but the Under-18s girl’s AASE team secured a win with a 60-14 thrashing of Cardiff Quins Under-18s.

There were a trio of rugby wins with the BUCS second team travelling to Bath to take on their university seconds in the BUCS Premier South B League and coming away with a 25-12 win, while the Under-18s second XV produced a 34-8 winning display against Exeter firsts in the AoC Premier League. The Under-18s fourths secured a 31-7 victory at Newcastle-under-Lyme first team in the AoC West Midlands League 1 to secure a treble of away victories.

In the netball, the junior second team chalked up another win in a 39-16 against Worcester Sixth Form firsts in the AoC West Midlands League 1, while the BUCS first team fell just short to Gloucestershire thirds in the BUCS Western 5B League in a 39-36 defeat.

There were some mixed fortunes this week, with a shock result for Hartpury’s top rugby players, as well as some commendable performances including a massive victory for the women’s rugby stars and good efforts from two non-academy sporting teams on their first major outing of the season.

Hartpury’s junior football manager Paul Tassell was named 2016’s Sports Champion at the Believe in Gloucester Awards last night after more than a decade of continued success at the college.

Hartpury student Sandy Fotheringham will be hoping to put in a statuesque performance for his dad at next year’s Wild Water Canoe World Championships after the proud father built a 15-foot hay bale replica of him so he can continue making waves in his sport!
