Rising Hartpury Equine Academy dressage starlet, Louise Gallavan, triumphed at the Houghton Hall British Dressage Area Festival at the weekend, securing qualification for the Winter Nationals at Hartpury.
Louise, 17, who is in the second year of the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management at Hartoury, won the Novice 38 Restricted Class on her horse, Silverstone, with a score of 72.8% - even more remarkable considering the class had more than 30 competitors.
This victory sees Louise, who is hoping to stay on to do her degree at Hartpury, qualify for the Winter Nationals at Hartpury next April.
Louise said: “I was thrilled to qualify for the Winters with this novice class win as we previously qualified for the Summer Nationals this year at Preliminary level. We are now going to focus on competing at elementary level though and hope to move on to Medium level some time next year.
“My lesson with Hartpury’s new Equine Academy Director, Lizzel Winter, a week before the competition really helped. Silverstone feels as if he has progressed already and it was fantastic to achieve a new personal best at novice level.
“My horse is an 11 year old, 17.3hh Warmblood X by Silvester and I have only had him 10 months. He hadn't really done very much when I got him but we have worked really hard this year on the basics and I'm so pleased this is now paying off. I'm very excited about our future together.”
