Students prepare for university after fantastic results

The A Level Centre celebrated the highest number of students attaining A*, A and B grades, bucking the national trend of a drop in higher grades at A level. Over 72% of the grades achieved this year were a B grade or above, with an overall pass rate of 97%.

The range of subjects chosen at universities remains diverse, with a notable increase of students progressing on to science-related courses.

Among the high achievers were Becky Collinson, Rob Panting and Freya Teday, who all gained A* grades.

Freya, who achieved A*A*B in biology, chemistry and maths and is going to Nottingham University to read Mechanical and Biological Chemistry, said: “I would never have expected two A*s – it was the most amazing feeling to see them when I opened the envelope!

The pre -vet programme opened so many doors for me. It allowed me to meet lots of different people and being able to work with the herdsman at the farm has given me a lot of important contacts. I’d now like to go into medical research.”

Rob is going to study Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough with A*AB and said: “If you’re living away from home, you have to look after your own time and you’re really treated like an adult. I’m 100% more mature than I used to be. I feel like I’m ready for university thanks to these last two years. Coming to Hartpury was probably the best decision I’ve made in my life.”

Other notable achievements include Jack Lawthom, who combined his A levels with the rugby academy, to gain AAB grades and win a place reading Aerospace Engineering at Bristol University. Jamie Miller achieved ABB and is reading Electrical & Electronic Engineering with Industrial Experience at Manchester University.

Luke Rake, Vice Principal (Further Education) commented: “We are thrilled with our fantastic A Level results which reflect the students hard work and the quality of care, specialist staff knowledge and the fantastic facilities we have on campus. Recognition must also go to the students who juggled their studies with elite sporting commitments to achieve high grades. We wish them all success for the future.”
