Paige shooting to success on national stage with Netball National Academy call-up

Paige shooting to success on national stage with Netball National Academy call-up

Hartpury netball starlet Paige Reed has seen her dream of representing England’s senior side move a step closer after being selected for the National Academy for a second successive year.

The 18-year-old, who has just completed a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences at the college, took part in a five day training camp last week featuring players from the country’s most talented academies and Superleague franchises.

And the youngster, from Brockworth, impressed throughout the trials to be one of 28 players named in the squad. She will now take part in monthly training camps throughout the season with the aim of being selected for the Netball Europe squads and a touring squad next summer.

Paige, who plays either goal attack or goal shooter, shone during her time at Hartpury as she played a key role in helping the side secure their highest ever finish of second place in last year’s England Netball’s National Schools competition while also leading the team to a fourth consecutive unbeaten campaign in the Association of Colleges (AoC) league, which culminated in title success at the AoC Superleague national play-offs.

Despite suffering serious injuries to her ankle and knee, the sharpshooter produced shooting stats of 83% per game with an average of 40 goals a game this season.

Sarah Pretty, Hartpury Netball Manager, said: “Paige was a joy to coach throughout her time here and it was great to see her talent develop over the two years she was at Hartpury. Her perseverance and determination has always been on display and it has been rewarded with consecutive call ups to the National Academy. We all wish her the best of luck and hope she will continue to push on and make the full England squad one day.”
