Friday 11th December
The first day of this wonderful three day extravaganza got off to a ‘flying start’ early this morning with the –The Blue Chip Karma Performance Championship Qualifier. Thirty five competitors jumped in the first round. Thirteen jumped clear to go through to the jump off against the clock. The winner in a time of 31.37 was Alan Thomas riding ‘Quick N Easy’ owner by John Mcgeoch; in 2nd place Matt Lanni riding Victoria Lord’s ‘Vrijag’ 32.92 and 3rd place Fegolas ridden by Ben Bick 33.60.
In the second class – The Blue Chip Dynamic B & C Championship Qualifier – 8 of the 28 starters jumped clear to go into the second round. In first place Robert Bevis riding his own ‘Upperten II’ 38.50; 2nd ‘Damigo Z’ ridden by Katie Johnson 39.52; 3rd place ‘EasterTracks’ ridden by Bryan Smith 39.91.
The afternoon performance saw the start of the 1st Leg of the Tour - the Bronze Tour – sponsored by Southwick Farm – this two phase competition – with eight obstacles to jump not against the clock. The clear rounds go straight on to jump a further six obstacles at speed. The top twenty five riders go through to the 2nd Leg. Winner Helen Rees jumped two brilliant clear rounds on each of her two horses ‘Rumers Gucci’ (37.73) and Pimosa (38.88) to finish 4 seconds and 3 seconds in front her nearest rival Katie Johnson who finished in third position on Damigo Z (41.79). The additional excitement during the competition was caused when ’Tressie’ ridden by James Johnson had a refusal, the bridle came off and then proceeded to do seven laps of the arena before finally coming to a halt! Fortunately horse and rider were none the worst for their experience.
Friday Evening:
The 1st Leg of the Gold Tour – sponsored by Pegasus – attracted 41 starters. This A4 competition, where competitors go against the clock in the first round and are placed on faults and time. The £1,000 first prize went to Tim Gredley riding ‘B F Utopia’ (63.01) 2nd place Matthew Sampson riding ‘Rush On M’ (63.05) 3rd place Victoria Tulloch riding ‘Soliegette’ (65.52).
A presentation was made to the winners of the British Show Jumping Intro League for the Central West Region. The BSJA would like to express their gratitude to Central Horse News Magazine for their generous sponsorship of the Leagues in the Central West Region. The winners have gained points throughout the year at British Show Jumping Intro level shows, held in Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire. These shows are the first step on the show jumping ladder and allow amateur competitors to jump at shows and enjoy a high standard of course design and judging from trained officials. Winners: Junior 70 and 80 cm League – Harley Cornock of Hayden, Cheltenham with ‘PJ Scooby Doo’; Junior 90 cm Lily Dodd from Slough with ‘Wayside Hot Gossip’; Junior 1 m Amy Halstead from Maidenhead with ‘Waysides Its a Buzz’; Senior 70 cm Katherine Davis from Tidmarsh, Reading with ‘Kilgainy Lady’; Senior 80 cm Karen Harden from Bracknell with ‘Irish Party’; Senior 90 cm and Senior 1 m Chantelle de Verteuil with ‘Belissima IV’.
Following the BSJA presentations the audience were entertained by a very colourful display by the London Chinese Acrobatics. The core members of the company have been professionally trained in China and have performed all over the world.
The final competition of the evening was the 1st Leg of the Silver Tour – sponsored by Dengie. Out of the 59 starters, 22 horses jumped clear rounds. In the final jump off against the clock 10 horses jumped clear. 1st place Anthony Condon riding Ross Hill’s ‘Eurocommerce Lanapoule’ (34.00) 2nd place Angela Von Essen riding ‘Omineral Courcel’ (34.09); 3rd place Alec Trickett riding ‘Just Teasing’ (34.11).
Saturday
The day started with the 2nd Leg of the Silver Tour – sponsored by Holiday Inn Gloucester-Cheltenham – the 53 starters going straight against the clock, running under A4 rules. The winner Carian Scudamore riding ‘Angel III’ took the £500 1st prize in a time of 71.54; 2nd place Tim Gredley riding ‘Valente’ 74.99; 3rd place Samuel Hutton riding ‘Astral’ 75.83.
During the interval the audience were entertained by Cyril the Squirrel and his racing terriers – this display has established itself as one of the leading terrier racing teams in the country today. These great little dogs race on the flat and over their purpose built jumps! Also, The London Chinese Acrobatics performed another display.
The 2nd Leg of the Bronze Tour was the Speed and Power class with 52 starters – sponsored by Devoucoux. The excitement of going against the clock in the first round and leading into the power section with ‘big’ fences tested these less experienced horses. This competition was won by Amelia Campbell-Horne riding her own horse ‘Who’s the Boss’ (44.02). Amelia, who comes from Zimbabwe, is an International Academy student here at Hartpury College doing a three year degree course on Equine Science. Her parents were in the audience to watch her receive her prize. 2nd place went to Sophie Broome riding ‘Sir Graditz’ (44.36) and 3rd place went to Iain Cart riding ‘Ojess’ (44.44).
NAF were the sponsors of the 2nd Leg of the Gold Tour – a speed competition. From the 43 starters 14 jumped clear. The £1200 first prize when to Graham Lovegrove riding ‘Pandur’ owned by Connectix Ltd (33.08) 2nd place Guy Williams riding ‘Dukhan’ (34.76) 3rd place ( Gemma Paternoster riding ‘Osiris’(41.60).
At the end of the 2nd Leg of each Tour the leaders are: Silver Final: 1st Alec Trickett and ‘Just Teasing’ 34 points; 2nd Sam Hutton and ‘Astral’ 33 points; 3rd Carian Scudamore and ‘Angel III’ 30 points. Gold Final: Victoria Tulloch and ‘Soliegette’ 32 points; 2nd Sam Hutton and ‘Olympia III’ 30 points; 3rd Guy Williams and ‘Dukhan’ 28 points. Bronze Final: 1st Helen Rees and ‘Rumors Gucci’ 31 points, 3rd Katie Jonson ‘Damigo Z’ 28 points.
During the interval the audience were entertained by Cyril the Squirrel and The London Chinese Acrobats. 
The Hartpury Arena was packed to capacity on Saturday evening for the Puissance – sponsored by Andrews Bowen Ltd – the big red wall standing at 1.70 m. The 10 horses entered in this prestigious competition were all specialists in their own right having the ability to jump these enormous fences. Nine jumped clear in the first round, they all jumped clear in the second round. The third round five jumped clear the big red wall standing at 1.95 m– Lynne Bevan and ‘Le Marquind’, Matthew Sampson and ‘Pits Daughter’, Robert Whittaker and ‘Sherlock’, Graham Lovegrove and Cavallo Z , Anthony Condon and ‘Wertherroschen’. The riders were now under pressure as they went into the final round – the big red wall now standing at 2.13 m. Unfortunately all five competitors knocked the wall down – Matthew Sampson just misplaced one brick! - they were eager to jump again – but the rules do not allow so therefore they all shared the prize money.
Sunday:
Sunday –The final day of the 3rd Leg of the Bronze, Silver and Gold Tours - the top horses in each of the Tours qualified for the Final. The lower placed horses jump in the Consolation Final.
Results : Bronze Tour Consolation – sponsored by Cushion Bed - 1st Helen Rees riding ‘Rumers Gucci’, 2nd Sebastien Poirier riding ‘Red Man’, 3rd Emma Slater riding ‘Ruxton Hotshot’.
Silver Tour Consolation – sponsored by Nick Partridge (Farrier) – 1st Ellen Whitaker riding Kanselier 2nd Joe Whitaker riding ‘Shearwater Upanda’ 3rd Thomas Whitaker riding Henri De Herne.
Gold Tour Consolation – sponsored by Grundon Waste Management –1st William Funnell riding ‘Ani Star’ 2nd Steven Franks riding ‘Image Du Reverdy’ 3rd Keith Doyle riding ‘Wokando’.
The Silver Tour Final – sponsored by Saracen – The top 30 horses jumped in this final. Seven went through to the second round. In an exciting jump off – the last to go Carian Scudamore riding ‘Angel III’ claimed the £1,200 first prize in a time of 34.93. Carian is the Junior European Gold medallist. 2nd Guy Williams riding ‘Ciske Van Overis’(36.95) 3rd Matthew Sampson riding ‘V. Anubertha 59’ (45.34).
The Gold Tour (Victor Ludorum) – sponsored by Hartpury College – this was the great spectacle of the afternoon. Fifteen of the 31 starters went through to the second round. Eight cleared the huge track to go into the third round against the clock. Graham Lovegrove and ‘Pandur’ were the last to go having jumped very impressively throughout had a fantastic clear to take the Grand prize of £4,500 in 38.55 seconds, 2nd Peter Charles and ‘Rubert R’ (40.88) 3rd Robert Bevis and ‘Courtney 6’ (41.50).
The final class of this three day Show Jumping Spectacular was The Bronze Tour Final – sponsored by Equimat. In an exciting jump off the winner was Sophie Broome and ‘Sir Graditz’ in a time of 37.65, 2nd Gail Burchmore and ‘Bernard II (38.89) 3rd Helen Rees and ‘Pimosa’ 39.34.
