Hartpury College

In order for you to be selected into the Hartpury golf programme, you must first be applying for, or have already accepted, a place onto a further education course at Hartpury College.

With limited places in our two competitive squads – elite and elite development – certain players will be picked based on merit, to represent Hartpury in competition throughout the year. The standard of these squads is very high, with handicaps usually ranging from +3-5.

The players who do not make these squads also have the chance to play regular golf and develop at a competitive level by playing in monthly medals at Lilley Brook Golf Club, friendly matches and the Gloucestershire Schools Championships.

Trials for these squads are held at the beginning of term and consist of a 36 hole event with the player’s best 18 hole score counting towards their final placing.  In addition, assessment days are held throughout the year before enrolment in September.

There is continuous monitoring of players’ development via a monthly order of merit, giving players additional opportunities to demonstrate their progress and earn selection into the squads once the trials have been completed.

Academically, applicants to Hartpury College will be required to meet certain criteria depending on the course you’re applying for.  If you have not achieved these prerequisites there are other options available to you; for further details please contact the subject leader for specialist sport, Neil Jones, via email at neil.jones@hartpury.ac.uk or by phone on 01452 702270.

Hartpury Golf Assessment Days

Following a successful trial last year, we are once again giving potential elite golfers the opportunity to showcase their abilities at a couple of Assessment Days this year, which will run alongside the planned Taster Courses.

The two day courses will consist of classroom and practical experiences to give you an idea of the academic life at Hartpury and will also involve some Skills Tests on our Driving Range and Short Game Area, as well as some basic fitness work in the gym.

You will also be given the opportunity to play a round at Cumberwell  Park Golf Club where our PGA Professionals will be able to cast an eye on you and provide feedback on areas of strength and weakness.

If you’d like to attend one of these Assessment Days, you must sign up to the Taster Course here.
