Ruth is Hartpury College’s Performance Lifestyle Manager. Ruth has been in post since October 2013 and looks after the elite student athletes at the college, helping them to maintain a healthy balance between sport, education and personal life.
During the last five years Ruth worked for a County Sport Partnership in the West Midlands leading on large scale community sport project management, disability sport development, event management and also running a talented athlete bursary scheme.
Prior to that Ruth worked at the University of Essex as Sport Development Officer, leading on the university’s talented athlete bursary scheme, Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme athlete support and also the development of a new junior feeder bursary programme working with local sports clubs and schools. Ruth also worked with Badminton England to successfully establish the University of Essex as a Badminton Performance Centre.
Ruth has also experienced life at Hartpury College as a student, after completing an MA in Sport Management in 2008. Ruth also has Practitioner membership of the Register of Personal Development Practitioners in Sport, and achieved the Level 3 in Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support qualification in 2009. In addition to this Ruth is also a trained anti-doping Educator.
Ruth is an elite level Cross Country Mountain Biker and races internationally, including two UCI Mountain Bike World Cup events in 2013 and the Cyprus Sunshine Cup in 2014; she has also been Welsh National champion twice. Ruth understands the demands placed on elite athletes who are also undertaking a programme of study as she had to juggle a demanding training and competition schedule along with a full time job and 65 mile commute for a number of years before starting work at the college.
