In order for you to be selected into the junior rugby programme, you must first be applying for, or have already accepted, a place onto a further education (FE) course at Hartpury College.
Our elite squad compete at a very high level and members are expected to be capable of playing to at least divisional standard. The Elite Group is comprised of the top 30 players within the College’s FE sector, while the next best 30 players will form the Elite Development Group.
The players who do not make these squads will still have the chance to train and play at a competitive level in the development and foundation groups, who are coached by our experienced FE staff. The FE staff communicate with the Rugby Academy coaches on a weekly basis and, as such, there is no restriction on movement between the four groups. There are several examples of players who have progressed into the elite group, and indeed into age grade international and professional rugby, having started in the development and foundation groups.
Open trials for prospective players are held in the first week of September, with the purpose of identifying talented players to join the Hartpury Rugby programme.
Ultimately, places in the programme will be offered based on prior experience, your rugby CV and performance in trials. Players will also need to ensure they have confirmed, or are in the process of accepting, a place on one of Hartpury College’s courses.
Academically, applicants to Hartpury College will be required to meet certain criteria depending on the course you’re applying for. If you have not achieved these prerequisites, there are other options available to you.
