Hartpury College

New rowing programme launches at Hartpury for September 2017 - competitive scholarships available.

If you are an aspiring Great Britain senior or Under-23 rower or professional rowing coach, Gloucester-Hartpury's new rowing programme and coaching opportunities could help you achieve your dreams.

Building on the unprecedented success of our junior rowing programme, which has produced 12 Great Britain junior and Under-23 rowers in six years and won three consecutive Henley Royal Regatta titles from 2014 to 2016, Hartpury University Centre is now offering rowers aged 18 and over the chance to develop their rowing within our elite programme while studying for a degree

On this programme, you will:

  • Work with a dedicated coach in partnership with the GB Start programme and Gloucester Rowing Club
  • Benefit from exceptional facilities, including a new £1.6million boathouse opening in 2017
  • Have access to performance services including physiotherapy, strength and conditioning, sports science, psychology and nutrition
  • Receive an individualised coaching programme to give you the best possible chance of reaching your goals

As part of the new Higher Education rowing programme, you will develop your rowing alongside studying for a degree on our 360-hectare specialist sports campus.

Athletes on the programme will benefit from excellent land training facilities at Hartpury alongside water-based training at Gloucester Rowing Club’s new £1.6million pound boathouse, opening in 2017. This sits alongside one of the best stretches of rowing water in the UK with 50 kilometres of sheltered, uninterrupted training water that does not flood!

And with so many sports courses to choose from, there’s bound to be one that suits you. We offer everything from Honours and Foundation degrees through to postgraduate study with programmes including Sports Therapy, Sport and Exercise Science and Nutrition, Sports Coaching, Physical Education and School Sport and Strength and Conditioning. You could even choose to study one of our equine, animal or agriculture degree courses.

You could even be eligible to apply for a highly competitive scholarship which could cover a significant portion of your fees. To register your interest for the new Higher Education rowing programme and find out more about the scholarships available, e-mail tom.pattichis@hartpury.ac.uk

Case Study: Jes Robson (Hartpury Sports Coaching degree student, Rowing programme coaching intern)

“In the first year of my degree studies, I took on responsibility for my own group of junior rowers at Gloucester Rowing Club and was involved with coaching the novice athletes on the Gloucester Hartpury programme. Now I’m in my third year of my degree, I’m the lead coach for the 14 to 16-year-olds at the club and I have 30 athletes training with me at various levels.

“I’ve also had the opportunity to work with a para rower and I was invited to attend several camps with the Great Britain Para Rowing Development team. This included training on land, tank and on the water and I had the chance to travel all over the UK for racing and trials. My time at Hartpury has been fantastic for my coaching CV and given me so many opportunities to put the theory I have learned on my degree into practise.”
