Could you fuel Great Britain’s future sporting success and help keep the nation healthy?
Sports and Exercise Nutrition is a booming business and demand for professionals who can support our sportsmen and women to be the best they can be is rapidly growing.
And, if you’re looking for a great career when you graduate, you could help fill that need by setting out on the path to becoming a registered sports nutritionist.
Stand out from the crowd
Hartpury University Centre is one of very few institutions in the country offering a pure Sports and Exercise Nutrition undergraduate degree programme, and successful completion of the course is the perfect way to kick-start a career in the industry. And we still have limited places available for September 2016!
This innovative programme will give you all the theoretical, investigative and practical skills you need to go on to complete a Masters degree in Sports Nutrition* accredited by the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr). This will then enable you to join the graduate register held by the SENr
Your dream career
This will open doors to exciting career opportunities in a wide range of industries and settings – from professional clubs to national and international governing bodies to the booming fitness sector and the growing focus on public health education. You could also go on to complete your Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and become a lecturer or teacher in a science-related subject.
The course content has been designed and written in line with national benchmarks and to meet the priorities and requirements of the national governing body for practitioners – the Sports and Exercise Nutrition Register.
You will learn how to assess and plan nutrition for improved sporting performance. When you graduate, you will have a thorough understanding of the biochemical and physiological implications of the nutritional advice you recommend. And, if you want to give your CV a further boost, there’s the option of a sandwich year working within the industry.
You’ll be taught by staff who are not only respected academics in their field, but also advanced practitioners who have worked with a wide variety of athletes and our actively engaged in research.
You’ll also have the opportunity to use the latest dietary software, equipping you with the knowledge and experience that will enable you to hit the ground running in the workplace and in further study. Plus you’ll be able to take a lead on educating elite athletes in healthy eating that can maximise their performance, including leading practical cookery sessions.
And as a Sport student at Hartpury, whether you choose to focus on Sport and Exercise Nutrition, Sports and Exercise Science, Performance, Coaching, Business Management or Therapy, you benefit from the opportunity to work with elite athletes and top level coaches in an environment that’s as close as it gets to a professional club.
Studying for your Sports degree at Hartpury means countless opportunities for real world work experience with sportsmen and women from our eight academies in men’s and women’s rugby, football, golf, netball, equine, rowing and modern pentathlon.
A reputation for success
And, with 11 national team titles secured across five sports in 2014-15 and international honours across the board, Hartpury is rightly proud of its reputation for sporting success. We’re skilled at supporting elite athletes to balance their academic and sporting commitments, and putting them on the road not only to professional contracts but also a career beyond sport.
But you don’t have to be an elite performer to benefit from the direct access to the professional clubs and organisations that work with us, especially when it comes to work experience opportunities.
Sports Coaching student, Tom Reynolds, for example, worked full-time as the Academy Performance Analyst for Gloucester Rugby while studying at Hartpury and he didn’t have far to go with Gloucester Rugby’s training base on our specialist 360-hectare campus! Or Sports Conditioning and Injury Management student, Tom John, who is spending the year with Premier League outfit Southampton as a strength and conditioning coach for their Under-nines through to Under-16s.
And then there’s the facilities – from a human performance lab and cardio and power gyms to a sports therapy and rehabilitation suite and new Rider Performance Centre – there really is no place like Hartpury if you’re passionate about sport.
Our students have gone on to some fantastic careers in a wide range of industries and enjoyed some exceptional work placements all over the world, helping them open doors to their dream careers. You can read our students’ stories here
