FdSc Equine Performance

Benefit from world-class facilities and world-class expertise. Learn from lecturers who are specialists in their subject areas. Gain industry experience at our international equine events.

Two years full-time (Three years with sandwich year)

Modules in both years of this Foundation degree programme enable students to gain knowledge and experience of how to train, manage, feed and maintain performance horses as well as gaining an insight into the added demands of competition.

Students who recognise themselves as practical learners will benefit from opportunities to develop skills and knowledge to understand the demands associated with the management and training of the modern performance horse.

The option of a sandwich year provides an opportunity to work within industry and apply the theory students have learned on their course, and work placements help to develop personal and professional skills.

A variety of assessment opportunities exist for this programme, including practical exams, portfolios, oral presentations, reports, written exams and assignments, allowing students to develop a range of skills, either to hit the ground running in the workplace or for future study, with graduates often going on to top up to a full honours degree with the BSc (Hons) Equine Management (top-up).

Trips are often run to complement the theory learned on specific modules that are run on a cost recovery basis only and students are given significant time to be able to plan for such expenses outside of the standard fees.
