BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Nutrition (with Foundation Year)

Study in a professional sports club-style environment. Work with elite athletes as part of our Sports Academy. Benefit from our connections with major sports clubs and governing bodies.

Four years full-time (five with sandwich year)

Part-time options are available

Career options within sport and exercise nutrition are expanding. You could become a freelance sports or performance nutritionist, work with a club or governing body or teach. The NHS also offers an increasing number of opportunities for students with specialist training in exercise nutrition to support GP referral schemes and other healthy living programmes.

Employers are increasingly seeking nutritionists with a specialist sport and exercise nutrition degree. Our BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Nutrition degree is written in line with the competencies set out in the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr). It will provide students with an advanced understanding of the physiological, biochemical and nutritional responses to the physical activity and exercise involved in various forms of sport, and of the special circumstances that occur during training and competition.

We will work closely with you to develop the skills and critical insight to provide appropriate nutritional advice for health or sporting performance. You’ll gain research experience and a comprehensive range of transferable scientific and vocational skills so that you can hit the ground running when you start work, whether that’s in a one to one consultancy situation or with groups, teams and coaches. A low student: staff ratio ensures exemplary academic and pastoral support within a friendly and informal environment.

With our elite sports academy on site, you will have many opportunities to work with elite student athletes in a range of sporting disciplines including rugby, football, netball, modern pentathlon, rowing and golf. You will benefit from links with the sporting industry that are fully integrated in the work we do with local sporting professionals, teams and related businesses. There’s also the opportunity to undertake an optional sandwich year, boosting your chances of securing your dream career and giving you useful contacts in the industry.

During the course we also invite guest speakers from industry, other universities and research organisations to provide you with subject specialist knowledge. We also encourage students to attend relevant industry and academic conferences.

A degree with a foundation year is a subject-specific, one year of full-time study at level 0 prior progressing to level 1 on this undergraduate degree. This programme will suit you if you have a minimum of two passes at A level, or another recognised post-GCSE qualification, even if not in the subject areas needed for level 1 of your chosen degree. You can also apply if you did not obtain high enough grades or you don’t have the necessary standard of English.

How to apply for this course

Entry Requirements

We welcome students with equivalent qualifications, including Access and the International Baccalaureate. Contact the admissions team to discuss.
