This degree is the first of its kind in the UK. It provides a fantastic opportunity for you to graduate as an accredited sports therapist with the Society of Sports Therapists, specialising in equestrian athletes.
Central to the four-year course is the examination and assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries. You’ll learn how to diagnose and treat injury, with a clear understanding of the demands of different equine disciplines.
You’ll benefit from developing your practical skills in our outstanding equine and sports facilities. These include multiple therapy suites, rehabilitations gyms, mechanical horses and a rider performance centre including 3D motion capture.
You’ll have the opportunity to strengthen your learning and experience with real-world case studies, ranging from grassroots riders to elite performance riders, as well as athletes competing in a range of sports. Gaining hands-on experience in our on-site sports therapy clinic, you’ll treat our elite athletes across our performance sports including equine.
An equine work placement is a core part of the course. You could gain experience at one of our international equine events or work at Gloucestershire-based eventing or racing yards. After successful completion of your third year, students are able to gain paid employment as a sports therapist. This is really useful as you move through your final year of the course.
The course is accredited by the Society of Sports Therapists. This allows students to pursue a career immediately on graduation. Popular career options include self-employment as an equestrian sports therapist – clinic-based, mobile (travelling around yards) or working within mainstream sports clubs.
