Students are able to apply for Academy membership prior to each academic year.
Those that meet the required standard will be invited to trials that take place at the start of the academic year. Applicants for the squads are also eligible for Hartpury Equine Scholarships, which provide financial support alongside the equestrian coaching programme available.
The Elite and Elite Development Squad applications will be considered from Horse and Rider Combinations that have competed successfully at the following levels:
Eventing – CCI**/CIC** level and above with points won
Dressage – BD Medium level with points won
Showjumping – BS 1.30m with money won
Para Dressage - To be competitive within the FEI Para structure or part of the BEF World Class Development or Podium programmes.
Applications will be considered at Development level from Horse and Rider Combinations that have competed successfully at the following levels:
Eventing – BE Novice with at least 6 BE points won (not foundation points)
Dressage – BD Elementary with points won
Showjumping – BS 1.10m with money won
Para Dressage - To be part of the BEF Rider Development and Talent ID Pathway competing successfully within the RDA and BD Rider Development programmes.
There are a maximum of 9 places available in the Elite Squad and each member will receive the following support:
- Weekly 1.1 training sessions with Academy Director, Lizzel Winter
- Regular show jump coaching with Academy Show Jumping Coach Corinne Bracken and dressage coaching sessions with Carl Hester (depending on discipline)
- Assistance with planning competition schedule
- Support from the Hartpury Sports Academy Team with includes physiotherapy, strength and conditioning sessions and nutritional advice
- Group and 1:1 sports psychology sessions
Applications to join the Elite Squad are invited from event riders who have competed successfully and won points at CCI**/CIC** and above, dressage riders who have won points at medium level, Para dressage riders who have competed internationally and show jumpers who have won money at 1.30m and above. Elite development squad
There are a limited number of places available for the Elite Development Squad. Selection for this squad is for riders currently competing at Development level (or above) and showing the potential to be at Elite level in the future. Consideration for this Squad is at the discretion of the Equine Academy Director
There are a minimum of twelve places available in the Development Squad and each member will receive the following support:
- Weekly group training sessions with the Academy Director, Lizzel Winter or Academy Show Jumping Coach Corinne Bracken
- Assistance with planning a competition schedule
Applications to join the Development Squad are invited from event riders who have competed at BE novice level and have won at least 6 points, dressage riders who have won points at Elementary level and above, and Para dressage riders who have competed successfully within their grade and show jumpers who have won money at BS 1.10m level and above.
Equestrian athletes who have previously been a part of the Development Squad have gone on to achieve in a range of both competitive and business environments.
