Horseracing is a huge international business and it needs graduates with excellent commercial and industry knowledge and experience. That could be you!

Not only is horseracing worth over £3.45billion annually to the British national economy, it is responsible for 85,000 jobs and international investment continues to grow. Studying one of our two new horseracing degrees would put you in the perfect position to drive its future growth and help it meet the challenges on the horizon.

As well as the BSc (Hons) in International Horseracing Business, Hartpury is also introducing an Honours degree focused on Racehorse Performance and Rehabilitation. Both have been developed with input from the horseracing industry and offer the option to spend a year working within the industry and the potential to study and gain practical experience abroad.

And if horseracing isn’t your thing but you want a career in equine business, we also offer an Equine Business Management or a Sport Business Management degree with a sandwich year option.

So why Hartpury for horseracing?

As the world’s largest equine education centre with Cheltenham racecourse and many prominent Gloucester-based trainers on our doorstep, Hartpury University Centre is perfectly placed to be at the forefront of shaping the future of the horseracing industry as well as ensuring that racehorses can hit and maintain peak performance for race days and beyond.

Plus, of course, Hartpury already has an outstanding reputation as a centre of excellence for equine therapy practice and research and for its exceptional facilities. Our graduates will be at the forefront of advances in therapy and rehabilitation techniques for thoroughbreds during and beyond their racing career.

Choosing Hartpury for your equine degree means studying in a unique environment within world class facilities supported by outstanding specialist teaching and coaching staff with vast industry experience within a research active community.

After four seasons at Thirsk Racecourse as Sales and Marketing Manager, I started at York Racecourse in March 2016 as their Operations Executive. We have more than 160 raceday staff and one of my main roles is to manage them. I also work closely with the police, City of York Council, St Johns Ambulance and our Health and Safety manager as these stakeholders are vital when putting on a race meeting.  I’m also responsible for community engagement, which I thoroughly enjoy.

I wanted to work in racing industry and Cheltenham was only down the road. It was doing marketing in my second year that led me to do my degree placement at York racecourse.
