Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Sport (Specialist Sport)

Develop your knowledge and skills in one of three specialist sporting areas: rugby, football or golf. This one-year qualification will support the transition from GCSE-level study to a level 3 qualification, and then into employment or university.

If you have a strong interest in one of the above specific sporting areas, this course is ideal for you. You’ll study on a specialist sports campus with world-class facilities and expertise. Hartpury’s global reputation for sport attracts talented athletes, coaches and industry professionals, making the campus a semi-professional learning environment.

You’ll undertake practical sessions focused on your specialist sporting area. These will cover a range of topics including examining the science of the human body and the fitness requirements of an athlete. The timetable is designed to enable you to attend training sessions or compete in your sporting area twice a week, alongside other specialist sports students.

The course provides an opportunity to tailor your learning to suit your interests. You could study anatomy and physiology, training for sports performance, designing exercise programmes, sports injuries, planning and leading sports activities and practical sport. These are all exciting topics that lead to exciting career opportunities.

Industry experience

A work placement during your course will enable you to gain first-hand experience of the industry as well as explore a career that is of interest to you. Students gain valuable contacts and often secure permanent jobs with their placement providers. You’ll also benefit from industry speakers in lectures and field trips to sporting venues and events across the UK to strengthen your learning.

Career opportunities

On successful completion of this course, you could be eligible to progress onto one of our level 3 diplomas in specialist sport (Football, Rugby or Golf), followed by employment or university-level study.
