Level 3 Extended Diploma Sport (Fitness)


If you’re looking for a career in the fitness industry – or hoping to progress onto a higher education sports degree, then this course provides an excellent foundation for your development towards your goals.

You will learn through a mix of theory based and practical sessions and will study 19 modules over the two year course, with a mixture of fitness, instructing and sports science based modules. In addition to this, you will also get the chance to work with and instruct “specific groups” which could include older adults or disability people.

In your first year, you will also have completed your YMCA Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing. A work placement during your first and second years will allow you to gain first-hand experience of the industry as well as invaluable networking opportunities and contacts.

Your course will combine classroom study and practical sessions. Your practical sessions will be fitness based with the majority of these taking place in our Cross Training Gym.

Career opportunities 

You will have a wide variety of progression opportunities on completion of this course. Careers in fitness instruction or as a personal trainer are natural options after this course.

Five GCSE grades at C (or 4 where numerical grades are being used) or above including English Language and either Maths or Science.
