Within our 360-hectare estate, 318 hectares is designated for commercial use - providing students with an ideal training ground to develop their skills. Alongside our farms, our estate boasts ancient semi-natural woodland, a fully stocked lake, parkland and the farmed estate. All of these facilities are used by students, enabling them to gain real world experience, including countryside skills, woodland management and game keeping. Students have the chance to demonstrate conservation management theory (for example, wildlife surveying skills) and practices along with skills such as fencing, hedge maintenance and woodland planting, maintenance and coppicing. The woodland and the lake form the basis of on-site environmental management teaching. Our gamekeeping students are fully involved in the rearing and management of game bird species on site and Hartpury's Shoot provides a commercial setting for them to practice a range of practical skills associated with the industry.
