Hartpury’s estate boasts its own commercial Home Farm, with more than 250 milking cows, around 80 calves, more than 600 sheep and arable land. There’s also a dairy bull beef rearing unit producing veal on a supermarket contract and our dairy unit consists of 296 cubicles for milking cows and straw yards for dry cows. Students are able to experience milking, calving, lambing and rearing and observe and assist with veterinary procedures on the farm. Students have a wealth of opportunities to apply their knowledge and understanding in practice on Hartpury's 500-acre farm estate, including all aspects of dairy, beef and lamb production and crop management, including agronomy and machinery operations. They are also able to use the facilities and animals for livestock and fieldwork research for their dissertation projects.
