Sports Academy Assessment Days
Train as an athlete whilst studying. Assessment days for 2021/22 are now open.
Since its foundation in 2003, the NAF International Hartpury Horse Trials has established itself as a firm favourite amongst competitors in the Eventing calendar; providing four days of outstanding equestrian sport, including a weekend packed full of top Cross Country competition, two days of dressage and two days of show jumping as well as a great social occasion for all! The 2019 event will run from 9-11 August.
This high profile event attracts some of the biggest names of the international eventing world and with such top quality competitors across the classes, spectators can be sure to experience the very best of the sport.
The Thrills and Spills!
The Horse Trials run across the 360-hectare Hartpury campus with the dressage and show jumping taking place in the International Arena and the cross country phase running across Hartpury House Bank. Spectators have the opportunity to view all aspects of the event from the side of the course to the tiered seating surrounding the arena.
The event includes a CCI*, a CCI** and a CIC***. The sequence of phases for the CIC will be dressage, followed by show jumping, followed by cross country, run in reverse order of placing, which should promise an exciting climax.
On multiple occasions, the cross country courses have been designed by Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials, Badminton Horse Trials and European Championship designer Eric Winter.
World class competitors
Over the years, this high profile event has seen Olympians and top eventers such as; Sir Mark Todd, Astier Nicolas, Mary King, Laura Collett, Andrew Hoy, Tom McEwen, Izzy Taylor, Pippa Funnell, Harry Meade, Andrew Nicholson, Paul Tapner, Zara Phillips and Chris Burton compete.
The trials are hugely popular with riders across the globe as they act as a qualifier for the Olympics, World Championships and European Championships.
Many young up and coming eventers can also be seen competing in the trials. For example, Astier Nicolas - the former Hartpury student who went on to win individual silver in the Rio Olympics, 2016 - competed here in 2015!
