Hartpury College has been hailed for delivering life-changing programmes to hundreds of students after being named Leadership Academy of the Year for 2017.
Sports Leaders UK, a charity that provide leadership awards and qualifications to young people, picked Hartpury as one of their three annual honours for leadership academies that go above and beyond.
Principal Russell Marchant, alongside Hartpury College sports staff and former students, received the award from Sports Leaders UK’s chair, Duncan Lewis, at a ceremony on Tuesday 28 November.
The college have been praised for their comprehensive leadership pathway that enables more than 200 students to learn transferrable skills each year, while also benefiting their fellow students and the local community.
Dan Robinson, Assistant Head of Department for FE Sport, said: “We’re delighted to have been given this award. It’s dedication to the superb attitude of the students in their extensive volunteering and leadership, and the hard work and commitment shown by the staff in the Sports Department.”
The Sports Leaders UK awarding panel said that it was impressed with the high standards that the college instils within its programmes, as well as the fact they produce sports leaders of the highest quality.
They also commented on the strong links that Hartpury had with the community, noting that their leaders take an active part in support and running events for young people and those with special needs.
Hartpury’s sports students are regularly involved in running activities and events, both at Hartpury and in the community. They play a big part in delivering the School Games and have also worked recently with Gloucestershire Special Olympics to help deliver their 2017 Sports Day.
