FdSc Sport Performance

Join an industry focused and hands-on sports degree. Explore a range of subjects including sport and exercise psychology, sports coaching and exercise physiology. Think creatively and examine new concepts in the world of performance sport.

This programme balances practical experience in industry with academic study to give you the skills and knowledge that employers are looking for. You’ll develop expertise in sports leadership, science and coaching to prepare you for the competitive sports industry.

You’ll learn with industry-standard facilities and have opportunities to work with athletes and teams from our Sports Academies. Your first year will provide you with a thorough understanding of the sporting industry. Specialist modules on topics such as exercise psychology, sports coaching and exercise physiology will give you insights into a range of areas, after which you can tailor your studies to suit your interests and career goals.

Across both years you’ll complete over 200 hours of experience in industry. This will give you insights into different career pathways as well as valuable experience for your CV. On completion of the degree you should be ready to move into employment or top-up your qualification to a full BSc (Hons) degree, by progressing onto one of our one-year level 6 programmes.

Industry opportunities

You’ll complete 200 hours of industry experience, to ensure you’re ready for your next step. You’ll also have opportunities to work with our Sports Academy athletes and teams on campus. Our students work with sports organisations locally and across the UK within the fields of sports science, coaching and development. Professional and amateur sports clubs, as well as schools and colleges, are just some of the options on offer.

Teaching

This programme comprises of different modules, which focus on specific subjects. The modular structure of the programme gives you flexibility and choice and you can attend introductory sessions for optional modules before having to finally decide which ones you wish to study.

Learning and assessment

You will be assessed through a mixture of written exams, practical exams and coursework. Many of the modules will be marked based on a mixture of assessment types, whilst others will be based solely on one type of assessment.

Our sport graduates work in a range of sport, exercise, health and wellbeing areas at both performance, school and community sports sectors. Studying sport also develops the skills needed for other graduate careers. Recent graduate destinations have included:

Entry Requirements

GCSE | A minimum of 5 GCSE A* to C, (or 9 to 4 where numeric grades are being awarded), including English Language and Mathematics

A Level | Typical offer is CC or equivalent. This must include a minimum of one A Level preferably in a Biological Science, Sports Studies or PE subject (excluding General Studies)

Level 3 Extended Diploma subjects/grades | Typical offer is a MPP in an Extended Diploma or equivalent in a relevant subject

We welcome students with equivalent qualifications, including Access and the International Baccalaureate. Contact the admissions team to discuss.

We may interview mature applicants and those with non-traditional qualifications.

Previous learning towards a university-level qualification or relevant work experience may count as credit for this course. Please contact our admissions team.
