Postgraduate Research

Studying a research qualification at Hartpury could change your future.

Be part of an internationally recognised research community. Change the world we live in. This is your opportunity to undertake practical research designed to make a positive difference to people, organisations and communities.

By choosing to study one of our research degrees, you’ll have access to highly qualified and professionally respected staff. You will also be part of a research network that includes opportunities for you to work with industry on significant and real world issues. You'll be part of a vibrant community which is supporting and aspirational, and you’ll be able to complete an applied research project aligned with one of our four research Arenas.

To apply for an MPhil (Master of Philosophy) or PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) degree, you will normally need to have obtained a 2:1 degree and/or a Master's degree qualification. You can study in either a part-time or full-time mode for either of these degrees. Fees reflect the mode of study and the expected duration of your registration to completion. Please get in touch with us to discuss this.

What’s the difference between an MPhil and a PhD?

Essentially, an MPhil is a smaller scale PhD. It can either form part of a PhD or be taken as a standalone qualification. It’s common to transfer between MPhil and PhD registration, depending on the progress of your research. If you’ve identified a smaller research topic that interests you, which doesn’t have the scope for a full PhD, an MPhil might be the right route for you.

Postgraduate studentships

We offer full-time PhD studentships, in two categories:

  1. University Centre Hartpury funded: these are pre-specified research projects aligned with a Hartpury research arena. These include fee payment and an annual bursary and are advertised via the Hartpury job vacancies section and when available.
