This applied course will help you to build your skills while giving you valuable industry experience to ensure you’re career-ready when you graduate. Our relationships with local and national equine businesses will give you the opportunity to gain a feel for life in industry.

Learn from research-active lecturers with industry experience. A wide range of modules will allow you to tailor your studies. If science is your passion then modules on equine nutrition, the effect of disease and disorders in horses, and the benefits of equine therapy are available to you. If it’s equine management you’re interested in, you could develop the skills to be a new yard owner, organise your own events and gain valuable stud management experience.

In your first year, a wide range of modules, including the management of equestrian facilities, equitation and equine veterinary science, will introduce you to both areas. You’ll then tailor your studies to suit your interests and career goals through a range of exciting optional modules. On successful completion of this course, you’ll have the opportunity to top-up your foundation degree to a full honours degree in one year.

A compulsory work placement will enable you to gain essential industry experience. You’ll experience working on our own yard, followed by opportunities to work either at our annual international equine events or within an industry setting of your choice. Students have worked both nationally and abroad for top riders, in a range of varying equestrian centres, and gained experience in the equestrian retail sector. You could also complete British Horse Society qualifications with us alongside your studies.

Teaching

This programme comprises of different modules, which focus on specific subjects. The modular structure of the programme gives you flexibility and choice and you can attend introductory sessions for optional modules before having to finally decide which ones you wish to study.

Learning and assessment

You will be assessed through a mixture of written exams, practical exams and coursework. Many of the modules will be marked based on a mixture of assessment types, whilst others will be based solely on one type of assessment.

Entry Requirements

GCSE | A minimum of 5 GCSE A* to C, (or 9 to 4 where numeric grades are being awarded) or equivalent, to include English Language, Mathematics and a Science.

A Level | Typical offer is CC-CDD or equivalent. This must  include a minimum of one A Level preferably in a Biological Science.

Vocational award | Typical offer is a MMP-MPP in an Extended Diploma or equivalent in a relevant subject.

If you have not studied a Biological Science at Level 3, you will need to complete an equivalent science module as part of this programme.

We welcome students with equivalent qualifications, including Access and the International Baccalaureate. Contact the admissions team to discuss.

We may interview mature applicants and those with non-traditional qualifications.

Previous learning towards a university-level qualification or relevant work experience may count as credit for this course. Please contact our admissions team.
