You’ll benefit from your own 360-hectare classroom, gaining hands-on experience on our own commercial farm, Home Farm.

Central to the degree is developing you to adapt to the demands of modern agriculture and sustainability issues.

You could choose to focus on crop production, livestock, international farming or a mixture of all three. You’ll conduct your own business and research projects throughout the year, focusing on an agreed topic that uncovers new knowledge relating to current farming issues and developments.

You'll spend time in industry alongside learning on campus. You might already have employment that you can use as your work placement or we can help you find something to match what you want to do.

Industry opportunities

You’ll spend time in industry, which is great preparation for your next step. Recent work placements have been undertaken across the UK and overseas, including subsistence farming in Uganda, working for abattoirs, seed companies, as well as arable and livestock farms in Gloucestershire, Suffolk and Cornwall.

Learning and assessment

This programme comprises of different modules, which focus on specific subjects. The modular structure of the programme gives you flexibility and choice and you can attend introductory sessions for optional modules before having to finally decide which ones you wish to study. We usually offer all optional modules available to students however if we believe that we are unable to offer a high quality student experience (which can be particularly affected by low student demand) then we may make the decision not to offer it. 

Assessment is by coursework, written exams and practical exams and ratios may vary depending on the optional modules selected. Some modules have only one assessment, while others have two different types of assessment weighed together for the overall mark.
