BSc (Hons) Animal Management Top-Up

Make a difference to the lives of animals, right from day one of your degree. Learn in our labs and study spaces with our on-site animal collection. It includes meerkats, prairie dogs and wallabies.

Top-up your existing qualifications to a full BSc degree in one year. Develop your practical skills while learning on a campus that’s home to over 90 animal species. Focus on the topics that interest you and tailor your studies to suit your career goals.

Top-up your HND, foundation degree or equivalent to a full honours degree, tailoring your studies to suit you. If animal health and welfare is your passion, you could cover advanced animal nutrition, utilising our animal laboratories to develop your practical skills. Anthrozoology, which looks at the interaction between humans and animals, could be another option. You’ll explore the benefit of assistance animals, and how animals can help in education. If wildlife conservation is your passion, you could experience the behind-the-scenes working of a zoo as part of a residential trip.

You can choose from a diverse range of existing topics, including animal psychology, animal therapy, or biodiversity and conservation. You’ll have opportunities to improve you skills with access to exotic and domestic species. You could also choose to study larger species on our commercial farm, exploring animal production.

You’ll also assess current industry research focusing on the important topics in animal management through an applied project. This will develop your research skills and give you a chance to focus on an area you’re most passionate about.

Industry opportunities

Our commercial canine and equine therapy centres, as well as our commercial farm offer you the opportunity to gain industry experience ready for your career. You’ll be encouraged and supported to find volunteering opportunities. Recent students have worked at organisations such as the Blue Cross, West Midlands Safari Park, the International Centre for Birds of Prey and Bristol Aquarium. Guest lecturers will give you valuable industry insights and field trips to places such as Guide Dogs for the Blind will strengthen your learning.

Learning and assessment

This programme comprises of different modules, which focus on specific subjects. The modular structure of the programme gives you flexibility and choice and you can attend introductory sessions for optional modules before having to finally decide which ones you wish to study. You will be assessed through a mixture of written exams, practical exams and coursework. Many of the modules will be marked based on a mixture of assessment types, whilst others will be based solely on one type of assessment.

Graduate destinations

As an animal graduate you may go on to work in zoos, aquariums, wildlife parks, rescue, conservation or welfare centres. Studying an animal degree will also give you the transferable skills you need for other graduate careers. Recent graduate destinations have included:

Entry Requirements

A pass at Foundation Degree or HND in a animal science or management related subject.

We welcome students with equivalent qualifications.

Previous learning towards a university-level qualification or relevant work experience may count as credit for this course. Please contact our admissions team.
