Sport research at Hartpury

Our sport research is diverse, focusing on enhancing the performance of: athletes, coaches, the general population, teaching staff, and students.

With 10 sports academies and exceptional sports facilities on our specialist campus, including the multi-million pound sports academy, there are a wealth of opportunities for staff and postgraduate researchers to work with elite athletes and specialist coaches on site. And our partnerships with professional sports clubs and governing bodies also open up a world of research projects outside of Hartpury too.

The department of sport comprises research groups in ‘Applied Sport Performance’ and ‘Coaching Pedagogy’, with a number of staff also undertaking learning and teaching research.

All research activity within the department either directly or indirectly informs not only current industry practice but also the curriculum, either through research that directly informs curriculum design (e.g. research into first-year transition) or knowledge creation that informs curriculum content (e.g. research into mental toughness directly informing coaching curriculum content).

All staff are actively involved in research and knowledge exchange either as researchers or practitioners.
