10-men Hartpury go five unbeaten with Melksham draw

Hartpury FC came from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw against Melksham Town, making it five games unbeaten on Saturday.

Two stunning Nathan Jenkins efforts made sure the points were shared in this Southern League Div One South clash at the Oakfield Stadium.

The Acorns had the first sight of a chance when a Vanylson Silva cross was cleared into the path of Billy Osborn, but his driven volley was blocked well on 14 minutes.

But with their first shot of the game, Melksham took the lead when Leon Greenland’s cross found the diving head of Levi Irving, on 24 minutes.

A scramble in the Acorns six-yard box almost saw Irving snatch a second, but the ball wouldn’t sit up for the Town attacker allowing Seth Locke, in the Acorns goal, to gather kindly on 41 minutes.

On the brink of half time, Osborn found his way into the area, but a low, driven effort couldn’t trouble the Melksham goalkeeper, seeing the Acorns go into the break behind.

HALF TIME- MELKSHAM TOWN 1-0 HARTPURY FC

Melksham wasted no time in the second period doubling their lead when Jamal Lawrence swept home from close range, five minutes in.

But just four minutes later, Jenkins wonderfully got the Acorns back in the game, finding the net with a driven strike from 25-yards.

The game was all squared on 73 minutes when Jenkins, this time from 20-yards, rifles an effort past the goalkeeper, following an Osborn blocked effort.

Jesse Aldridge tried an audacious attempt from distance on 76 minutes, but it dipped just over the bar

Charlie Holliday had a late chance to win the game for Melksham when he went one-on-one with Locke, but his lifted effort was too high and dipped well over the goal, on 88 minutes.

The Acorns were made to settle for a point, even after being reduced to 10-men a minute from time, when Osborn was shown red, following a second yellow.

The Acorns remained five games unbeaten and will look to extend this further when we welcome Bishops Cleeve to the 4ED Hartpury Stadium next Saturday.
