Acorns defeated late in Westbury

Two late goals saw Hartpury FC suffer a 2-1 defeat to Westbury United at the Platinum Hyundai Stadium on Tuesday night.

Goals from Ryan Bole and CJ Stewart overturned an early Billy Osborn opener to see the White Horse Men walk away with all three points in this Southern League Div One South clash.

Sol Kent had a half chance from distance on seven minutes, which he saw beaten away by Joel Butler in the Westbury goal.

Osborn, minutes later, gave the Acorns a perfect start in Wiltshire when, after picking up a long ball, found the top corner from 16-yards, for his tenth goal of the season.

Westbury’s best chance came on 21 minutes when; after rounding Seth Locke, a low driven effort was kept out of the goal by Vanylson Silva.

Some valiant defending late on by the Acorns made sure we took the one goal lead into the break.

HALF TIME- WESTBURY UNITED 0-1 HARTPURY FC

It was a much quitter second period with Westbury threatening early on but were again denied by some fantastic defending by Kent.

The action didn’t kick in until the last 10 minutes of the game when Kent and George Sims had to make brilliant blocks to keep the Acorns ahead.

But on 86 minutes, Westbury found a way through Bole who manged to flick a low effort past Locke from close range.

And on 90 minutes, Westbury turned the game on its head when Stewart found the far corner with a curling effort inside the area.

That goal handed the Acorns their first defeat in November, and we will look to put it right when we travel to Sporting Club Inkberrow on Saturday.
