Acorns secure back-to-back wins thumping Tavistock

Hartpury FC thumped Tavistock AFC 6-1 at the 4ED Hartpury Stadium on Tuesday night to make it back-to-back wins in the Southern League Div One South.

The Acorns made the perfect start when Billy Osborn turned home from close range on five minutes, after Noah Coates had headed a Louis Manning cross into his path.

Manning troubled the goal on a couple of occasions from crosses that needed turning behind from the Tavistock goalkeeper, Dan Holman.

Holman denied the Acorns a second on 18 minutes when he got out well to deny Coates one-on-one, following a well-timed Leon Machisa through ball.

But the Acorns did make it 2-0 on 34 minutes when Nathan Jenkins danced through the penalty area to calmly slot home into the bottom corner.

Coates made it three five minutes later when he cooly headed an Osborn cross into the far corner, seeing us take a comfortable lead into the break.

It didn’t take long for the Acorns to find the net after the restart, when on 46 minutes, Coates rolled home from close range following an Osborn slipped past.

Four became five on 54 minutes when Silva picked out the bottom left corner from 25-yards with a superb effort.

Osborn wanted a second but was denied by a low Holman save on 62 minutes before Drew Robinson curled a wide free-kick into the far corner for 6-0 on 64 minutes.

The visitors made a late surge in the game, finding a goal back on 72 minutes, bundling an effort home from a corner.

But it wasn’t enough to deny the Acorns successive wins, sending them up to ninth in the league, and they will looking to make in nine points in a week when we travel to Bideford AFC on Saturday.
