Acorns suffer first home defeat in two months against Portishead

Hartpury FC suffered a 3-1 defeat to Portishead Town on Tuesday night at the 4ED Hartpury Stadium.

Despite a Noah Coates opener, a brace from Ethan Feltham and a strike from Jay Murray secure all three points for the Possett in this Southern League Div One South clash.

Portishead has the opening half chance of the game on 12 minutes when the ball feel kindly to Jay Murray inside the area, but he could smash his effort wide.

The Acorns summoned a half chance on 16 minutes when Noah Coates glanced a Louis Manning cross wide of the goal.

It was the Acorns who did strike first when Coates swept home a low Manning cross, from close range on 23 minutes.

Three minutes later, the Possett levelled the game when Feltham found space at the back post to poke home a dangerous cross.

It didn’t take long for the Possett to then take the lead on 31 minutes when Feltham turned home a low cross from six yards, seeing them hold the lead at the break.

The Possett wasted no time scoring a third on 51 minutes when, with some help from the linesman, Murray’s close ranged effort was deemed over the line.

Ryan Smallwood was forced into a save on 63 minutes when he had to tip a dipping header over the bar.

Manning went close on 69 minutes when his effort was deflected up and onto the roof of the net.

Feltham went close to completing his hat-trick on 71 minutes, but his driven effort whistled past the post.

The Acorns tried everything to get back in the game with Drew Robinson even seeing a distanced effort fly just past the post on 76 minutes.

But that wasn’t enough to avoid our first home defeat since the first game of the season, and the Acorns will look to put that right on Saturday when we welcome Exmouth Town to the 4ED.
