Acorns unbeaten streak ended in Falmouth defeat

Hartpury FC fell to a first defeat in almost two months losing 3-2 to Falmouth Town at Bickland Park on Tuesday night.

Sol Kent and an own goal did the scoring for the Acorns in this Southern League Div One South clash but strikes from Sam Buckley, Luke Barner and Rubin Wilson saw Falmouth come away victorious.

Louis Manning struck the first chance of the game on seven minutes, driving across the 18-yard box before striking straight at the Falmouth goalkeeper.

The game went quite for a small while after that until, on 24 minutes, Kent was fed through on goal and calmly lifted the ball over Falmouth ‘keeper, Morgan Coxhead, and into the net.

Vanylson Silva was next to find himself in front of goal on 29 minutes but his effort, from close range, was smothered by Coxhead.

Falmouth went close to equalising on 37 minutes, but Luke Barner could only send his effort from 12-yards, over the bar, seeing the Acorns hold their lead into the interval.

HALF TIME – FALMOUTH TOWN 0-1 HARTPURY FC

It was a slow start to the second period, but the Acorns went close minutes into the half through Billy Osborn who tried an audacious from distance, but it flew wide.

Falmouth tried their luck on 58 minutes but could only see a set-piece fly into the crowd from distance.

Falmouth managed to find a leveller on 68 minutes through a Buckley glancing effort, just seconds after coming off the bench.

Silva went close to putting the Acorns back in front but saw his headed effort turned behind for a corner on 70 minutes.

But it was Falmouth who turned the game around with two quickfire goals from Barner and Wilson on 80 and 84 minutes.

The Acorns found one back on 90 minutes when a Tomos Shyamapant flick was turned into their own net by a Falmouth defender, but it wasn’t enough to avoid a first defeat since August.

The Acorns are back on the road on Saturday as we look to get back to winning ways against Bashley.
