Match Preview- Melksham Town (H)

Written by Sam Russell

The Acorns will be looking to bounce back from recent defeats as we welcome survival chasing Melksham Town to the 4ED Hartpury Stadium on Saturday.

A return to winning ways would provide a timely boost for the Acorn, as they aim to build momentum heading into the final stages of the Southern League Div One South campaign.

Ahead of Melksham's trip to the 4ED, here is everything you need to know about the Town.

THE OPPOSITION – MELKSHAM TOWN

STADIUM – Oakfield Stadium

NICKNAME – The Town

FOUNDED – 1876

LEAGUE POSITION - 19th

LAST FIVEL – D – L – W – W

LAST TIME OUT

The two sides last met earlier back in December, when The Acorns travelled to the Oakfield Stadium.

It proved to be an entertaining contest, with the Acorns showing great character to fight back and secure a 2–2 draw.

Nathan Jenkins was the standout performer on the day, scoring a brace to ensure Hartpury left with a well-earned point.

WHAT’S HAPPENED SINCE?

After picking up back-to-back victories in March, Melksham looked to be building momentum in their fight for survival.

However, a dip in form has followed, with the Town now winless in their last three matches and failing to score in each of those games.

That run has seen Melksham slip into the relegation zone, level on points with Willand Rovers, who remain just above them on goals scored.

With little separating the sides and the season entering its final stages, every result will be crucial as The Town look to climb away danger.

Meanwhile, the Acorns will be aiming to respond after back-to-back defeats, as they look to regain momentum and continue their push towards the play-off positions.

IN THE DUGOUT - KIERAN BAGGS

Kieran Baggs rejoined Melksham at the start of March, having previously led the club to promotion from the Western League Premier Division back in 2018.

Now back in charge for the crucial stage of the campaign, Baggs brings familiarity and experience as he looks to guide The Town through the final run-in.

With Melksham currently sitting in the relegation places, Baggs will be focused on organising his side and picking up vital points as they aim to climb out of danger in the closing weeks of the season.

PLAYER TO WATCH - ELLIOT HAFFENDEN

Elliot Haffenden has been one of the brighter attacking outlets for Melksham in recent weeks, scoring twice in his last five appearances.

With The Town struggling for goals, netting just three times across that run, Haffenden alongside Levi Irving, has remained a key source of attacking threat.
