Match Preview- Portishead Town (A)

The season of love is upon us and what better way to celebrate it than a trip to play-off contenders Portishead Town, on Saturday afternoon.

The Acorns will be looking to make it four wins in a row following an inspired end to January creating a five game unbeaten streak.

Ahead of our trip down the M5, here is everything you need to know about Saturday’s opposition.

THE OPPOSITION- PORTISHEAD TOWN

STADIUM- Bristol Road

NICKNAME- The Posset

FOUNDED- 1912

MANAGER- Kye Mountford

LEAGUE POSITION- 3rd

LAST FIVE- W-D-D-L-W

THIRD TIME ROUND

Saturday sees a third meeting between the sides this season following an encounter in the FA Trophy and once in the Southern League Div One South.

The first ever meeting between the sides came in the FA Trophy with the Acorns running out 4-1 winners thanks to goals from Billy Osborn, Vanylson Silva. Noah Coates and Leon Machisa.

But it wasn’t to be when the Posset returned to the 4ED Hartpury Stadium, in the league, as a double from Ethan Feltham and an effort from Jay Murray saw the visitors 3-1 winners.

WHAT’S HAPPENED SINCE?

The Posset head into this one off the back of an impressive 6-1 derby victory against Bristol Manor Farm.

Prior to that huge victory, the Posset had hit a slight stumbling block in their hunt for promotion, suffering a defeat to Sporting Club Inkberrow and back-to-back goalless draws with Willand Rovers and Swindon Supermarine.

Despite that dip, Portishead occupy third in the league and know a win could potentially see them jump to second.

Home form is key for the Posset who have suffered only three defeats in 17 games at Bristol Road, in all competitions.

PLAYER TO WATCH- JACK THORNE

In a side that has hit a quiet patch, away from the six goal smashing of Farm, Thorne has been prolific in front of the target.

In his last five games for the Posset, Thorne has bagged himself three goals including a brace in a 2-1 victory over Bashley.
