Josh Roney headed Hartpury FC towards their fourth straight win on his return to the club, as the Acorns defeat play-off contenders Portishead Town 3-1 on Saturday.
Roney sealed the points deep into the game, adding to outstanding finishes from Nathan Jenkins and Jesse Aldridge at Britol Road in the Southern League Div One South.
It was half that saw the Posset dominate most of proceedings with their opening chance falling to Ethan Feltham on seven minutes, but his driven effort was smartly stopped by Seth Locke.
The Acorns grew into the half and opened on the scoring on 16 minutes, when Jenkins picked out the top left corner with a superb finish from 20-yards.
The Posset accumulated a number of half chances throughout the half with Josh Roney having to produce a fantastic last ditch block on 19 minutes, marking his homecoming.
But the host’s pressure paid off on 39 minutes when Aron Robbins glanced a header into the far corner.

The Posset started the second period bright and saw Jay Murray go close on 51 minutes, but his curling effort dipped just over.
Locke and Roney ere called into action, collectively, in order to deny Jack Thorne giving the Posset the lead on 62 minutes.
Straight down the other end, Osborn pulled a cross back towards Renato Prifti who took aim from 12 yards, but the effort was inches too high of the bar.
The Acorns made the Posset pay for wasted chances on 75 minutes, when Aldridge curled a delightful effort into the top left corner from 18-yards.
Portishead tried everything to get a late equaliser but were continually denied by some resolute defending from the Acorns.
But the game was put out of sight in the 89th minute when Roney threw himself at a dangerous corner, seeing his header fly past the Posset ‘keeper and secure all three points…again!
The Acorns will be hunting a fifth straight win when we host Westbury United at the 4ED Hartpury Stadium next Saturday.
