Seven Hartpury rowers booked their places in the second round of the junior Great Britain trials thanks to four top ten finishes.

The single sculls event, raced over a 5km time trial, saw all seven of the entrants finish inside the top 40 rowers inside their respective categories.

A Level students Jack Williams and Joe Barnes finished 8th and 10th respectively with Extended Diploma Sports Coaching student, James Bird taking 32nd spot out of 136 starters in the men’s side of the competition.

Of the four girls who entered, two more top ten finishes were achieved. Flo Pickles (Rowing AASE/Gloucester-Hartpury) pipped Jess Newson to 6th position, with the Extended Diploma Sports Coaching student taking 7th place.

Alice Bowyer and Charlotte Hodgkins-Byrne, both A Level students, completed the set of excellent results, finishing 11th and 17th respectively out of 64 starters.

All seven students will now spend the winter training ahead of the next stage of trials held in February next year.
