Three Hartpury students are set to compete in this year's Hartpury Showjumping Spectacular alongside some of the biggest names in the sport.
Classmates, Ruby Fryer, Giorgia Distefano and Tanya Leeson are all currently studying for the Extended Diploma in Horse Management course at Hartpury College.
Ruby will be competing her horse Toby, a 16.1hh 6 year old Irish Sport Horse who she has owned for just over nine months. Ruby has previously had great success on her horse, having been placed at both Hickstead and Scope. She will be competing in the 1.25m warm up on Friday and the 1.30m Small Tour over the Friday and Saturday.
Giorgia will be competing on her seven year old horse, Rose. Giorgia is trained by David Austin and has previously qualified for the Discovery and Adventurer finals, as well as Scope in 2013. Giorgia will be riding in the 1.10m open class and the Amateur A Tour.
Tanya and her 12 year old mare, Carousel Jazz (Incy), will be competing in the 1.10m warm up classes on both Saturday and Sunday. The pair have had a great deal of success already from British Novice to Newcomers classes.
Tom Hallam, Head of Department for FE Equine said, “It is great that our own students are taking part in such a high profile competition. All of these students work incredibly hard to balance their academic studies against training for this high level of competition and we wish them great success this weekend in each of the classes they are competing in. We will have lots of staff and students cheering them on throughout the weekend! Our Equine students are also assisting with the running of the event, which gives them first-hand experience and insight into running high profile equine events”.
