Welsh wonder Llewellyn set for international debut

Former Hartpury netballer Sarah Llewellyn has continued her rapid climb up the international ladder after being selected for the Welsh senior side to face England this weekend.

Having only been picked for her country’s Under-21 side a month ago, former A-level student Llewellyn, 18, will make her full senior debut on Sunday at the Liverpool Echo Arena.

The goal attack also boasts Under-19 honours and will complete her climb to the top of the international stage as her side takes on one of the world’s best in England. She will find herself up against the likes of fellow former Hartpury student, Sam Cook, as well as other experienced England internationals Stacey Francis, Pamela Cookey and Captain Jade Clarke.

Hartpury netball coach, Sarah Pretty, said“Sarah was always one of the hardest working players at Hartpury and it is fantastic to see this dedication noticed and rewarded. As well as having a professional approach to training, she came with a smile on her face, and you can see she enjoys every second on the court. We’ll be keeping a close eye on her future and wish her all the best this weekend.”

England were originally due to play Malawi in the Sky Sports live game but were unable to make it due to visa complications, so Wales stepped in to fill the gap. The game will be shown live on Sky Sports 4 from 5pm this Sunday, 14th December.

As well as picking up international honours Llewellyn is also currently looking to secure her place as part of Celtic Dragon’s Superleague side, who she turned out for last season.

Having made the long squad following initial trials last month, Llewellyn was also included in a recent squad for the Dragon’s first outing of the season at the Mike Greenwood Trophy tournament.

During her time at Hartpury, Llewellyn was part of a highly successful college side that claimed a treble trophy haul as they won the British Colleges Sport Superleague and Championship titles as well as the British Colleges Sport National Cup.
