Students showcase equine skills in college competition

A group of Hartpury College students put their equine expertise to the test at a recent inter-college competition and rode into a second place finish.

Up against seven other colleges, the team of four Hartpury students - Hanna Bertorelli, Amelia Humphries, Chloe Hulme and Gee Johns-Powell - produced a strong performance in the dressage, showjumping and quiz sections respectively to finish behind hosts Moreton Morrell College from Warwickshire.

The students took part in the competition as part of the event management module for their BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Horse Management.

Sitting in fourth place after the dressage, Hartpury leapt to the top of the leaderboard after an impressive showing in the showjumping section.

Hartpury eventually finished just two points behind the leaders after the final quiz part of the competition.

Clare Farmer, an Equine lecturer at Hartpury College, said: “It was a great experience and the girls performed really well throughout the competition. The event was a really useful test of their skills and knowledge and to come away with second place up against other specialist colleges is an achievement to be proud of.”
