Top brains contribute to Coaching Science Seminar at Hartpury

Hartpury students, staff and guests had the opportunity to pick some top coaching brains recently when Ric Shuttleworth (main picture), the Head of Elite Coaching Development at the RFU, and his colleague John Widdowson (below), an RFU Area Training Officer, were visitors to the college’s inaugural postgraduate coaching seminar series.

Ric is well known for his thoughts on developing players’ game-sense by working within game-like practice environments whilst John is completing a Postgraduate Diploma at the college as an extension to his UKCC Level 4 qualification.

During the afternoon Ric facilitated a practical session demonstrating ways that players can explore decision-making, whilst John later reflected upon ‘A Coaching Journey’ during a presentation at the seminar dinner.

The conference attendees included current and prospective MSc Coaching Science students, as well as undergraduates who will begin PGCE courses in September and invited guests from Sports Coach UK.

Dean Clark, Hartpury’s MSc Coaching Science programme manager said “We really appreciate the contribution that all of our guests have made to the learning of our student coaches – their willingness to collaborate and share perspectives provided the perfect platform for some powerful professional development experiences.”
