Hartpury’s footballers remain on course for an historic treble as the junior team face off against Football Academy of Bisham (FAB) in the final of the English Colleges Football Association National Championship play-offs on Wednesday, May 13th (3pm kick-off).
Paul Tassell’s side, who have already secured the English Schools Football Association (ESFA) Boys Colleges Trophy, will travel to Notts County’s Meadow Lane looking to pick up their second title of the season. If they do so, they will complete a unique treble, with the university side having also secured the British Universities and Colleges Sport National Championship title this season.
Hartpury come into the game on the back of an impressive and hard-fought 2-0 semi-final win over Liverpool FC Foundation College and will fancy their chances after beating FAB 1-0 at the semi-final stage of last season’s competition.
Hartpury’s junior football programme manager, Paul Tassell, said: “It’s been an exceptional season already with this team having secured the ECFA Premier League title and a final win would be the icing on the cake. The boys are fired up at the prospect of completing a treble of national wins for Hartpury, which would be a first for the college, and we’ll be doing everything we can to make it happen.”
The boys will be looking to defend the title they won last year following a thrilling extra-time win over Gateshead but will be hoping for an easier path to triumph in the trophy this time around. Bisham come into the tie having come from 2-0 down to beat Monkseaton in their semi-final encounter.
