Hartpury Sport round-up from September 30th, 2015


Hartpury’s golfers got their British Schools and Colleges Tour campaign off to the perfect start this week with the ‘B’ team firing to success in both the gross and nett division at Tewkesbury Park Golf Club.

The ‘A’ team finished 10 strokes behind in the gross division to claim second place while the top three scores in the individual results saw Hartpury’s Jamie Thomas shoot a three under par score of 70 to lead from fellow students Kobe Adams and Rowan Warren, who finished one and two shots behind the leader respectively.

In the rugby, the Under-18s first XV continued their unbeaten start in the AASE League with a 46-27 victory against Moulton firsts while the Under-18s seconds produced a strong display in the AoC Premier League with a 46-14 win at Coleg Sir Gar firsts. In the same league, the Under-18s third XV held Oaklands first team to just one try as they coasted to a 42-5 victory while the Under-18s fourths fell at home in a friendly with Filton by 12 points in a 31-19 scoreline.

The BUCS football first team finished their pre-season schedule with a 4-2 win against Premier League outfit AFC Bournemouth’s Under-21s thanks to a hat-trick from Mustapha Bundu and a penalty from Scott Wilson.

The Under-19s first XI made it three wins out of three in the ECFA Premier League with a 3-0 home win over Birmingham Met Stourbridge 1sts while the Under-19s seconds took all three points by the same scoreline against Walsall College firsts in the AoC West Midlands Premier League. The Under-19s third and fourth teams won by the same scoreline of 4-1 in their fixtures against Birmingham Met Stourbridge seconds and Warwickshire College seconds respectively.

Both the BUCS second and third team suffered defeats in their pre-season friendlies against Brunel University, with the second XI losing out by a single effort in a five-goal thriller and the thirds losing 3-1. The Under-19s girl’s first XI went on a goal glut in the AoC West Midlands Cat 3B League against Warwickshire College firsts with a 9-2 display.

Finally, Hartpury’s netballers were on fine form with both teams producing a shooting and defensive masterclass in their victories. The junior first team breezed past Newcastle-Under-Lyme firsts 62-26 in the AoC Premier League while the seconds thrashed Gloucestershire College firsts 86-5 in the AoC West Midlands League 1.
