Improve your riding, minus your horse!

Hartpury Equine students are rapidly discovering that you don’t necessarily need to be on your horse to improve your riding!

The College’s Equine students are currently receiving weekly rider-specific Pilates sessions in the new Margaret Giffen Rider Performance Centre on the campus.

Thanks to Sportsmaker funding, these sessions are free to all equine students and are designed specifically for the rider.

Lana Campbell-Borton, Hartpury College Equine lecturer, said: “These sessions are a great way for our students to develop their core strength, stability and balance, which will directly impact on the their fitness as a rider.

“These sessions are run on a Monday morning at 9.30am, which makes it a great start to the week. Pilates is becoming increasingly recognised as an excellent way for riders to improve their ability to ride and we think that these sessions will benefit our students greatly.”

The Pilates sessions will run for the remainder of the academic year alongside equine-specific circuit training, which takes place on a Wednesday afternoon, also in the Rider Performance Centre.
