Hartpury rowers Bryony Lawrence and Frances Russell will become the second college duo to race at the Munich Regatta in May after being selected to represent Great Britain.
BTEC Sports Coaching student Lawrence, 18, and A-level student Russell, 17, were picked to race at the regatta following a tough four day selection process last week. They will race alongside Alex Rankin and India Somerside – both of Glasgow Schools Academy – in a women’s four.
The duo will become the second from the college to race at the event after Flo Pickles and Charlotte Hodgkins-Byrne back in 2014. Pickles and Hodgkins-Byrne picked up a win in the quad sculls final while Pickles also picked up two more wins on the opening day of the event.
Both Hodgkins-Byrne and Pickles went on to represent Great Britain later in the year, winning Bronze at the Junior World Championships.
Hartpury’s Rowing Coach, Tom Pattichis, said: “Although the Munich Regatta doesn’t provide a guarantee of being part of the final World Championship team, it is an important step along the way for the leading rowers and both Bryony and Frances will gain great experience of international competition which should stand them in good stead heading into the next round of trials.”
The Munich Regatta takes place on the 7th and 8th of May, 2016, and the girls still have a number of events between now and then. A week’s training camp in Belgium will lead up to the Ghent International Regatta where they will race before further Great Britain assessments in April – where they will again race together.
